Tips For Taking Online Beauty School Classes

Wish we could be on campus with our ARTIST’s but instead, we’re bringing campus to you! 🏫➡️💻.

The Salon Professional Academy (TSPA) just launched temporary distance-learning or temporary online learning for our cosmetology and esthetics programs. Just like it is for you, it is new to us as well. We are all a little stressed and adapting to our new world as quickly as possible. To make your transition into the beauty world smooth, here are our top 3 tips to help you manage your online classes –

Tips For Online Learning:

  1.  Manage your time. Set up a view of your daily & weekly schedule by first mapping out a calendar of all of the assignment and activity due dates along with work and family commitments. It’s okay to be selfish, block off time each week to get classwork done. Online classes tend to have a weekly flow and include discussion boards that require student participation. Plan to be a part of the conversation.
  2. Be a good participant. Good discussions are thoughtful, your best resources to help you bring good discussion starters can be from peer conversations, headlines, lecture and course materials. Great responses go beyond agreeing with your peers. Build on the discussion with your own ideas and experiences.
  3. Build your social community. Share contact information with your peers to connect on homework assignments and for social support. Be a part of  TSPA’s Facebook pages for enrolled students to get the best information fast and easy access to peer conversations on campus and homework topics. Your campus is here to support you every step of the way. Online students benefit from the same support as on-campus students, including help with financial aid to questions about technique.

Be kind to yourself. We are all in uncharted territory right now but we all have each other’s support even if it’s temporarily from a distance right now.

What Can I Learn in Skin Care School?

Do you know what an education in facials and skin care from The Salon Professional Academy, Melbourne and Delray Beach entails? Whether you’re considering attending facial/skin care school or just dipping your toe into the idea, it’s important to know about the curriculum. Here are the basic subjects you’ll learn if you choose to study with us.

Skin Analysis

A skin analysis is when a skin care specialist looks at a client’s skin under a magnifying lamp to determine skin type, skin conditions, and the best course of action. During skin care school, it’s standard to be trained on how to identify conditions like oily, acne-prone skin; dry, dull, aging skin; red or sensitive skin; and fine lines and wrinkles. When performing a skin analysis, a skin care specialist looks for skin type (oily, dry, combination) and skin conditions like acne, wrinkles, sun damage, rosacea, and more. In your facial/skin care education, you can learn about which products, regimens, and lifestyle changes can help with skin conditions and improve overall skin quality.

Waxing

Facial/skin care education can teach you the anatomy and physiology of the skin, hair growth cycles, and the different properties of light, dark, and sensitive skin. This information is crucial in performing effective, safe, and hygienic waxing services. Another key part of waxing is learning the different techniques for the underarms, face, legs, chest, and arms. It’s you can also learn the difference between hard and soft wax, how to minimize waxing pain, sanitation techniques, and the best aftercare methods for waxing.

Facials

Learning to perform facials starts with the skin analysis and then involves cleansing. Your skin care education can teach you cleansing techniques that remove dirt and toxins from the skin. The next step of a facial is exfoliation, which removes dead skin cells so skin can regenerate new ones. This can also release congestion and brighten the skin. During school you can learn about using ingredients like glycolic acid, vitamin C, and enzyme treatments to treat different skin conditions. Following exfoliation comes extraction, which helps remove impurities from the pores and eliminate bacteria that causes acne. In skin care school, you have the chance to learn about these impurities, the issues they cause, and how to remove them.

Makeup application

If you want to make clients look their best, you need to know the ins and outs of makeup techniques, products, trends, and more. In our program at TSPA Melbourne and Delray Beach, you can learn how to build a makeup kit, the importance of color theory, how to apply makeup to different face shapes and skin tones, how to properly apply standard products like mascara, lipstick, blush, foundation, eyeliner, contour, eyeshadow, and concealer, and much more. You will also have the chance to learn about different styles of makeup (bridal, avant-garde, editorial) and how to create those looks.

Trim Hunger Cut-A-Thon

September is National Hunger Action Month.  This is the time to realize that almost half of Brevard County’s 73,000 students participate in the free & reduced-price lunch program.  This lunch program is the key indicator of hunger and poverty in a geographic area.

Trim Hunger and The Salon Professional Academy in Melbourne Square Mall has declared “War on Hunger” and has partnered with The Children’s Hunger Project to help feed kids at risk of hunger.  Owner Kristen Kohl has outlined a program in which the public can help address the hunger problem.

This Sunday, September 27 from 12pm-6pm, the academy will be offering $10 haircuts to benefit The Children’s Hunger Project.  Donors will be invited to share a “selfie” on social media with their “orange thumbie” while showing their charitable act for hunger awareness. All proceeds for Trim Hunger and The Salon Professional Academy’s “War on Hunger” will go directly to food for elementary school age kids supported by The Children’s Hunger Project.

About Trim Hunger

In recognition of Hunger Awareness Month, Redken 5th Avenue NYC in collaboration with The Salon Professional Academy, will host the Trim Hunger™ Cut-A-Thon at the Redken Exchange in NYC on Thursday, September 10th from 10am– 3:30 pm to benefit City Harvest, a food rescue organization dedicated to helping feed the nearly 1.4 million New Yorkers facing hunger.

Top Redken stylists will be giving haircuts, blowouts and braids for a minimum donation of $25. Much like the way color specific ribbons are worn in support of causes, painting your thumbnail has taken on the same social identity. Essie, also a sponsor of the event, will be offering “orange thumbie” manicures in their Trim Hunger “Roarrrrange” shade as a symbol of support in the fight against hunger.

TSPA Trim Hunger Sept 27

Trim Hunger is the most recent non-profit endeavor of Redken stylist Josif Wittnik, owner of Salon CTI and Day Spa and The Salon Professional Academy in Appleton, WI. Following a local project to help feed families in need in his community, Josif developed Trim Hunger to raise awareness for the cause and feed the hungry on a national level.

“It costs City Harvest just 25 cents to rescue and deliver one pound of food in New York City, and with more than 2.6 million New Yorkers struggling to afford food for themselves and their families, a little bit goes a long way,” says Leslie Marino, General Manager, Redken US. “Redken’s Trim Hunger Cut-A-Thon will bring together both stylists and members of the community to help make an immediate impact on the fight against hunger in New York City.”
